[Climbing up on soapbox….]
My tendency is to question, even when it doesn’t make sense: that might be why I enjoy RPGs so much, and what caused me to write the kinds of stories that I do.
You know, I really can’t help it; every time I watch television, every time I visit another micronation, and pretty much every time I read this “not-a-forum,” I have to ask myself:
how is it for myself? What do I personally believe? Consequently, how would it be in TorHavn and, of course, Lykosha?
Ultimately, I end up looking to another planet, where I used to live, and ask the very same questions ….
So: it’s true; I see with alien eyes, and I compare what “they” do to what I think we should do. I’m not looking for approval, but understanding. In Lykosha, I have attempted to “translate” their way of doing things into human Lykoshan law. I can’t help it; it’s automatic, almost instinctive. “What would I do,” and more importantly, what would TorHavn do?
What’s the point (and is there one)? Do I believe slavery is “wrong?” Maybe. Yet: what about “the good of all (or “the Group?” Sometimes, for the good of “the People,” the Law must restrict.
And yett I must immediately point out that one must always balance restriction and freedom, and how hard it is to stand back and only restrict for the Whole and not one’s whim. I will also point out that, in the Wolf-Nation, “any Lykoshan may do as he or she wishes, so long as it does no dishonor, and so long as it does not violate any already established Packlaw of Lykosha.” That’s why there’s a Guardian of the Law (he or she does not rule, but makes sure, as an interested third party, that the Packleader only acts in a way calculated to benefit Lykosha as a whole. That’s why children do NOT belong to their parents, but a) to their clan and b) to the Pack (an attempt to arrest child abuse).
So: is control like this also called slavery? I would like opinions, please. And, also, a) if answering my questions are not appropriate on this particular thread or area, I invite all members of Micro-Book to contact me elsewhere, like on lykostalk.proboards.com and b) At your (ha-ha) leisure, go to www.packwolf.net/clanact2008.html
And take a look at the law which I was reminded of during the reading of this thread.
O.K. I’ve diverted your attentions enough now, go ahead, and do whatever you were doing before. Thanks for letting me rant, and wonder….
