Note: Originally, I translated this because the word "sra" (which means "to be able") sounded like the Spanish word "sera." Now I've completely "lost it," and actually tried to make the translation mean almost the same as the original text.
Here goes:
Verse I:
Original: When I was just a little girl,
Lit: Hwango sadhe xinna sdak,
Trans: When only (a) child I-was,
O: I asked my mother, 'What will I be?
L: Rebarek woda, eknap sdal?
T: (I) asked, Mother; what I-will-be?
O: Will I be pretty?
L: Sdal ven donir?
T: I-will-be one honoured?
O: Will I be rich?'
L: Nabo baidar?
T: and/or courageous?
O: Here's what she said to me:
L: Kes' ah-zhirak min stik.
T: This answer-to me she-did.
Chorus:
O: Que sera, sera,
L: Ek(nap) sadheo sdil,
T: What ever it-will-be,
O: Whatever will be, will be;
L: Soveh tro witak s'ro;
T: No-one not to-know it-will-be-able.
O: The future's not ours to see.
L: Kara tro sertay vaar(ik) sto;
T: Tomorrow no(t) ours to-see we-do;
O: Que sera, sera,
L: Ek(nap) sadheo sdil.
T: What ever it-will-be.
'What will be, will be.'
(Ek[nap] sdil, sdil.)
(What it-will-be, it-will-be.)
(
Verse II:
O: When I grew up and fell in love,
L: Ko tyifes, aisak stok,
T: As an adult, to-cherish we-did,
O: I asked my sweetheart, 'What lies ahead?
L: Reba(rek): Aiter: kestap sdol?
T: (I) asked, My-Love, where we-will-be?
O: 'Will we have rainbows
L: Ngotik thaibe-mas,
T: (Will we) Possess Prosperity,
O: day after day?'
L: E-i-leteo
T: Forever,
O: Here's what my sweetheart said:
L: Ditav min fanak stik.
T: He me to-say he-did.
Chorus (same)
Verse III:
O: Now I have children of my own,
L: O: Jyte xinnas gef min(tay) sdu.
T: Now children of mine they-are.
O: They ask their mother, 'What will I be?
L: Reba(rek) stu, Woda; eknap sdal?
T: To-ask they-do: Mother; what I-will-be?
O: Will I be handsome?
L: Sdal veh donir?
T: I-will-be one honoured?
O: 'Will I be rich?'
L: Nabo baidar?
T: And/Or (a) brave-one?
O: I tell them tenderly:
L: Tertav ah-fanak sta:
T: Them tell I-do:
Chorus again(same):
========================
It scans nearly 100%; it almost says the sam thing, yet also speaks to a native speaker of Litaja (physical beauty or richess mean nothing to a people to whom honour is all, for example). I substituted what would important to a culture such as the Xlel and the Lykoshans.
As always, let me know what you think.
